PreHospital Trauma Life Support

Recognized by the Prehospital Trauma Life Support Committee of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, and in cooperation with the committee on trauma of The American College of Surgeons, the Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) course is a unique and intensive continuing education programme created in response to the real need in EMS education for additional training in the handling of trauma patients. This programme is designed to enhance providers’ knowledge and skill in delivering critical care in the prehospital environment.

Continuing education credits are available for all programmes. This programme has been approved as a trauma certificate course by the Alberta College of Paramedics, since 1998.

Provider Course (16- 20 hours):

This is the “core” course of PHTLS instruction. It is designed to supply the pre-hospital provider with knowledge and skills for the pre-hospital assessment and care of the trauma patient. This course is the traditional classroom based programme, with no pre-course online work required.

PHTLS Provider Hybrid Course (8 -12 hours online + 8 hours with Instructor):

This is the blended online/classroom offering from the NAEMT. As a student, you complete the online PHTLS course including a final written evaluation. Once completed, you can book your face-to-face class day with our NAEMT approved Educators. Our scheduling is very flexible, and you may be the only student being monitored. It’s a truly great opportunity to be trained by our Advanced Care Paramedics privately. This Hybrid course is beneficial to HealthCare Providers working out or town, and wanting an opportunity for Continuing Education. The class day session is hosted at our training facility in Edmonton. We will be offering other locations in the future

Trauma First Responder (TFR)

This one-day trauma certificate course is focused on members of security, police, fire, and rescue teams that wish to increase their knowledge and awareness of traumatic emergencies.

This two-day programme will be open to specialised emergency responders and registered members in EMS. It’s focuses on ‘care under fire’ and operating in austere environments. It is created as a joint effort betwixt the US Army, and the PHTLS Programme. We are planning to offer this programme in November of 2015. Contact us for further details and pre-requisites.
